“Above All Else” to Screen in North Bay on November 15th

As part of the Docs North Film Festival, Stop Energy East (North Bay) will be hosting a screening of the documentary film "Above All Else" on Saturday, November 15th. The screening will be at 4 pm, followed by a panel discussion. Tickets are available for $6 at the Capitol Centre, or buy a weekend pass – regular is $35 and students or seniors is $25.

"ABOVE ALL ELSE is an intimate portrait of a group of landowners and activists in East Texas who tried to stop construction of the Keystone XL pipeline, a $7 billion dollar project slated to carry tar sands oil from Canada to refineries on the Texas Gulf Coast. Risking financial ruin, their personal safety, and the security of their families, these unforgettable people and their stories become an exploration of the human spirit and a window into how social change happens in America "

#EnergyEast pipeline: New Democrats reiterate call for environmental protection but still forgetting climate impacts

Following #TransCanada’s filing of their application for the #Energy Eastpipeline, the federal New Democratic Party has issued a statement "reiterating the vital importance of a fair, rigorous and open project review process." They forgot to mention climate change and are still saying that "processing Western Canadian oil in eastern Canada makes economic sense", but the call for a "rigorous review" is a nice move on their part.

Toronto Star: TransCanada seeks approval for Energy East pipeline

Toronto Star coverage of #TransCanada’s October 30th filing of their #EnergyEast project application conveys some of TCPL’s positive spin – meetings held, deals made, etc. – but also lays out some of the hurdles head for the risky project: "Quebec and Ontario have said they plan to intervene in the energy board review. Environmental agencies have also indicated that they dont favour the pipeline. North Bay is one community where opposition is already obvious Mayor Al McDonald has said he will apply for intervener status."
